The goal is to ensure that the highways and roads in the United States are safe for travel by everyone. Should your motor carrier (MC) number expire and you want to reactivate it, you can reactivate it by proving your insurance and paying a fee.

Reactivate your MC number by mailing a written request to the U.S. Department of Transportation Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration.
Provide your name, your MC number
and the name of the carrier in your written request.
Write a check payable to “FMCSA” in the amount of $80
— as of 2011 — and mail your written request and check to:

Reactivate your MC number online by filling out the online registration form on the U.S. Department of Transportation
Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration website.
Complete the form by answering the questions. Read the selections and choose the answer that best fits your personal registration.
