Interstate 271 was closed for about 90 minutes Saturday afternoon after a tractor-trailer hit a tow truck driver who was changing a tire along the highway.
Police said the driver was between his truck and the car he was assisting, on the shoulder of the northbound lanes near the I-480 interchange, when the tractor-trailer swerved and hit the tow truck and driver about 1:30 p.m.
The injured driver, whose name was not released, was flown by LifeFlight to MetroHealth Medical Center. I-271 was closed in both directions for the helicopter and reopened at 3 p.m.
No other injuries were reported. The tractor-trailer driver was not held, but police said the accident is under investigation.
