Driver walks away: Traffic was backed up along Route 3A south and Route 123 west for a couple of hours on Thursday (Sept. 13) after a roll-off dumpster truck fell onto its side at the Scituate roundabout. The driver of the truck, the sole occupant, was uninjured and walked away from the accident, according to Scituate Fire Chief Richard Judge.
“He refused any medical treatment,” Judge said.
Scituate Police Chief Brian Stewart said the incident, which occurred at approximately 1:15 p.m., appeared to be the result of the driver failing to regulate the Route 123 exit ramp.
“It’s still under investigation, but that seems to be what happened,” Stewart said.Stewart said it was still too early to say whether charges would be brought against the driver, whose name was not released.Firefighters on the scene said the truck is built to lift the metal dumpsters from cleaning and construction sites.
Stewart said the truck, which was carrying dirt and large tree branches and stumps, belongs to a company out of Easton.
“It could have been a lot worse,” Stewart said of the incident.
No other vehicles were involved.
The dirt and tree debris was being removed from the truck an hour after the accident, and Stewart said the plan was to get the truck right side up and have it brought to a site where the State Police Truck Team, which evaluates large trucks involved in accidents, would investigate it.
